Design is new so it does not have knowledge base of other fields such as chemistry, physics etc and uses them. So all knowledge is design knowledge if you think of it in a design context or apply it to a design. The designers personal philosophy determines how they will design something.“The mind sees an image of the world.” “An image you see with your intellect". We see the world through a perspective shaped by our opinions and philosophy. Greatly affects designers as their perspective will shape and have a huge influence on their work.Rene Descartes (1596-1650) “I doubt, therefore I think, therefore I am.” “Dubito, ergo cogito, ergo sum.” If we didnt and have an opinion and perspective then we would not exist.
